Designing for a new device experience beyond mobile and web pushed me to think beyond standard design processes.
To encourage donations and engagement, the design needed to prioritize emotional resonance—happiness, pride in giving, and a sense of community—rather than simply functional completion.
This project involved high uncertainty and complex stakeholder dynamics, reinforcing my belief that navigating ambiguity and synthesizing diverse perspectives into a cohesive system is where impactful design happens.
Unlike personal mobile or web experiences, the donor wall was a shared, public installation used by people of all ages and abilities.
Many major donors were senior alumni, and the space was frequently visited by families and children.
Due to time constraints, accessibility testing was limited. If revisiting this project, I would prioritize inclusive usability research to ensure the experience is accessible and meaningful for everyone.

The largest group of small donors (contributing less than $1K) is represented by sparkling symbols, creating a shimmering effect when the donation data is visualized.
We created and delivered a donation data visualization guideline to the engineering team to ensure the successful implementation of our design.

Background
Donor’s Wall is a wall space consisting of a large media wall and wooden plaques of donors to honor the university's donors. As the number of donors increased over time, a renewal project was carried out to extend the wooden plaques to the ceiling and install kiosks to encourage small donations via credit/debit card.

The Donor Wall was perceived as a static space because the digital wall was always turned off and donation data was inaccessible.
I redefined the Donor Wall into a scalable, interactive giving experience by integrating the digital wall, kiosk, and wooden analog nameplates into one connected interaction design system. This allowed donors of all scales to see, engage with, and participate in giving intuitively.

By allowing participation from all donors, even with a $1 contribution, the design lowers the barrier to donation. This transforms giving into an inclusive, participatory experience that drives higher engagement and repeat interaction.
